ChordIQ is a music training game that teaches sight-reading, chord recognition, ear training, and scales through fast-paced interactive challenges. It includes eight game modes covering treble and bass clef note reading, key signature identification, major and minor chord recognition, scale training, and interval exercises. The app supports piano, guitar, ukulele, and bass, and works with external MIDI keyboards for a hands-on experience. ChordIQ is available on iOS and Android. Whether you are a beginner learning to read notes on the staff for the first time or an intermediate musician looking to sharpen your theory and ear training skills, ChordIQ turns practice into a game you actually want to play. Track your scores on the global World Chart leaderboard and see how you rank against other musicians.
ChordIQ includes eight game modes designed to build different music theory skills. Sight-Reading Notes challenges you to identify notes on treble, bass, and alto clef under timed conditions. Key Signatures tests your knowledge of sharps and flats for major and minor scales. Two Chords presents two options and asks you to identify the correct chord quickly. Major or Minor trains rapid chord quality recognition by ear. Play Major Chords and Play Minor Chords require you to tap the correct chord on a keyboard or guitar fretboard, with MIDI keyboard support for both. Guess Scale covers Major, Melodic Minor, Natural Minor, Pentatonic, and Blues scales. Ear Training focuses on interval recognition, helping you identify the distance between two notes by sound alone. Each mode has its own scoring and World Chart ranking.
ChordIQ is free to download and play on iOS and Android. The free version gives you full access to all eight game modes with ads between rounds. A ChordIQ Pro subscription removes all ads for an uninterrupted experience and is available as a monthly or annual plan. Both plans auto-renew through the Apple App Store or Google Play and can be cancelled at any time from your device settings. There is no difference in game content between the free and Pro versions — Pro simply removes advertising. You can try every game mode, compete on the World Chart leaderboard, and track your progress without paying anything.
Yes. ChordIQ supports external MIDI keyboards on both iOS and Android, allowing you to play chords and notes directly on a physical keyboard instead of the on-screen interface. On iOS, connect via the Lightning or USB-C Camera Connection Kit or use a Bluetooth MIDI controller. On Android, connect via USB OTG. Once connected, ChordIQ detects your MIDI keyboard automatically and routes input to the active game mode. This is especially useful in the Play Major Chords and Play Minor Chords modes, where tapping on a real keyboard feels more natural and helps build muscle memory. MIDI support works with any class-compliant MIDI controller — no additional drivers or setup required. If you already own a MIDI keyboard, ChordIQ gives you a practical reason to use it for structured practice.
ChordIQ supports four instruments: piano and keyboard including external MIDI controllers, guitar, ukulele, and bass. In the Play Chords game modes, you tap notes on an on-screen keyboard or guitar fretboard matched to your chosen instrument. Sight-reading, key signature, and ear training modes work across all instruments since they focus on universal music theory concepts like note identification, interval recognition, and scale knowledge. If you connect a MIDI keyboard, ChordIQ uses it for the piano and keyboard modes. Guitar and ukulele players benefit from the fretboard interface that shows chord shapes in standard tuning. The app is designed so that the theory skills you build — reading notes, recognizing chords by ear, identifying scales — transfer directly to whichever instrument you play in real life.
